A photograph of a man is his, not ours. Here is exactly what happens to it.
The photograph
One photograph, standing straight.
This decides everything else. Prop the phone against something and step back until your shoes are in frame.
What makes a good one
- Head to shoes. The whole man, inside the two dotted lines.
- Face on. Square to the camera, shoulders level, arms a little away from the body.
- A plain wall. One flat colour behind you.
- Even light. A window to one side — not the sun behind you.
- Close-fitting clothes. A shirt and trousers read better than a jacket or a kurta.

Three numbers, and which man you are.
Chest over the fullest part with the tape level. Waist at the navel — not where the belt sits, which is always a lie of two inches.
